ABOUT US

Quinta Tinoco began on June 24, 1967, the date of the wedding of Joaquim Tinoco and Ilda Dores.

They started living in a humble house on the farm (a family heirloom). The couple had two daughters Suzel and Teresa Patrícia.

Around the 1980s, the Albufeira area began to receive the first British and American tourists. The Algarve and in particular Albufeira were undoubtedly an undiscovered paradise and everyone who arrived there fell in love with its wonders and also with the people of the land.

Joaquim and Ilda are truly characteristic of the Algarve people, having the gift of knowing how to welcome visitors into their homes.

The Quinta is located just a few gentle steps leading down to the beach. Initially, the couple began renting out their daughters' room to English tourists during their vacation months. Some of these first guests return today to enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.

Demand for rooms and spaces to rent began to increase as people heard about this incredible location. Joaquim decided to build his first house to rent, which he called Mar House. This is a first floor apartment above your house, with incredible open views to the sea.

As the 1980s progressed, many Germans began to appear with caravans looking for them, so Joaquim opened a space on the farm to accommodate 4 caravans. It became a unique experience with the families living together on this incredible Quinta and bonds were created for life.

As more and more people looked to come and stay, Joaquim and Ilda decided to build Vila Coelha, a charming house with 4 bedrooms (8 people), 3 bathrooms, equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, living room games, terrace, swimming pool and an incredible open view to the sea.

With demand still growing, in 2001 Joaquim decided to build Villa Medronho, a house with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, terrace and swimming pool and once again with a beautiful sea view.

In 2015 Joaquim and Ilda decided to remodel a small house they had on the farm for an American Ana Tachinha who was one of the original vacationers. She came back every year since then and became part of the family, so they called the house Thumbtack House. Its neighbors are Ilda's chickens, fig trees and avocados overlooking the sea.

Each house has a story, life and soul.

All were built by Joaquim's hands and cared for and preserved by Ilda's hands. Each house has a story, life and soul.

Joaquim is passionate and proud of his gardens, where he grows strawberries, watermelons, apricots, pomegranates, blackberries, figs, potatoes, onions, pumpkins, garlic, among others. He produces his own wine using the grapes present at Quinta Tinoco. It also produces the Algarve nectar, Medronho, a typical drink produced from a well-known fruit called Medronho.

Everything he harvests is for his own consumption and he loves to share it with the Quinta’s guests.

Ilda loves making typical Algarve sweets with fig stars, fig cheeses and some jams with the fruits of the farm.

Although Joaquim and Ilda only speak Portuguese, they always communicate with their guests in the language of their hearts. This has brought many families and their children to this truly idyllic location, returning for over 30 years because they are welcomed as family friends.

To ensure the continuity of this family tradition of hospitality, his daughters and son-in-law help manage Quinta Tinoco.

Everyone who enters the Quinta's gates is welcomed with love and affection as if they were family. This has always been and will be the family motto.
